Physical Geography Minor

Physical Geography Minor - Total Credits: 24

The Physical Geography minor is designed for students in the Colleges of Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Engineering, and others, who desire a scientific understanding of the spatial aspects of the Earth System and analysis of spatial data. The minor emphasizes the four spheres of the Earth System: Atmosphere, Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, and Biosphere.

The minor consists of required coursework including:

• GEOG 103 - Physical Geography of Earth’s Environment
• GEOG 104 - Physical Geography Laboratory
• GEOL 333 - Principles of Geomorphology
• GEOG 430 - Geographic Information Systems (GIS): Theory and Applications

Choose an additional 12 or more elective credits from:

• GEOL 100 - Natural Disasters
• GEOL 101 - Exploring Planet Earth
• GEOL 110 - Global Warming
• GEOL 303 - Global Environmental Change
• GEOG 335 - Earth Resources and the Environment
• GEOG 421 - Climatology
• 1. At least 12 unique credits (cannot be used in the major) are required.
  2. At least 12 Upper Division credits in GEOG and GEOL (courses numbered 300 and above)
  3. At least 9 credits must be completed at UNLV.
  4. A 2.5 or higher minor GPA is required.
  5. College of Sciences policy requires a minimum C grade for all courses taken toward the minor.
