The Minor in Jazz and Commercial Music is designed to offer rudimentary instruction in Jazz theory, improvisation, keyboard, history, performance skills, arranging & composition.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Minor in Jazz and Commercial Music, students will be able to:

Demonstrate rudimentary skills in Jazz theory, keyboard, arranging and composition
Perform and improvise at a skill level consistent with the expectations of the Division of Jazz and Commercial Music and School of Music
Identify prominent figures in jazz history and name prominent works, characteristics, and other stylistic considerations
Work well with others in different ensemble settings
