The Minor in Jazz and Commercial Music is designed to offer rudimentary instruction in Jazz theory, improvisation, keyboard, history, performance skills, arranging & composition.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the Minor in Jazz and Commercial Music, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate rudimentary skills in Jazz theory, keyboard, arranging and composition
- Perform and improvise at a skill level consistent with the expectations of the Division of Jazz and Commercial Music and School of Music
- Identify prominent figures in jazz history and name prominent works, characteristics, and other stylistic considerations
- Work well with others in different ensemble settings
