Certificate in Spanish Translation

This Certificate in Spanish Translation focuses on developing advanced specific language skills for the effective use of the language for translation and interpretation purposes. This program should be of particular interest to students considering careers in translation, government service, law, medical translation, international business, or other professions where translating and interpreting are important.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Continue effectively developing their linguistic competence in all areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in both English and Spanish.
  • Learn the fundamentals of translation and revising techniques.
  • Convert text at varying levels of complexity between the target languages, Spanish and English.
  • Acquire an understanding of the cross-cultural concepts that inform Spanish-speaking and English-speaking contexts.
  • Learn about and apply different sources of information, such as glossaries, websites, or dictionaries to complete professional translations.
  • Learn the basic dynamics of using translation software and other digital tools to produce accurate translations (English to Spanish and Spanish to English) using those tools.
