This Certificate in Spanish Language focuses on learning Spanish language skills and developing a strong foundation for the effective use of the language socially, academically, and professionally. This program should be of particular interest to students considering careers in education, government service, health care, hospitality, international business, journalism, media, or other professions where proficiency in a second language is important.

Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Listen, speak, read and write effectively in Spanish in a variety of contexts, including informal conversations and formal settings.
- Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills within Spanish language exchanges.
- Understand major literary, cultural, historical, and linguistic elements of Spanish language.
- Develop sociocultural awareness and interpersonal skills to compete in today’s multilingual world.

To obtain this certificate, you must be a degree seeking undergraduate student pursuing an approved UNLV bachelor’s degree. Please see Graduation Policies for complete information.

Heritage Speakers
If placed at SPAN 227 , students will take SPAN 302 and a combination of literature and linguistics classes to complete the 18 credits.
Language Courses - Credits: 6-9

In consultation with the Spanish program academic advisor, students should choose three to four classes from the following:
