Healthcare Administration (BS)

Studentspursuing the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Healthcare Administration gain a broad view of the healthcare delivery system and healthcare management practices. They develop skills through the curriculum and internships to prepare them primarily for entry-level management positions in the organization, financing, and delivery of healthcare services.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students are able to describe the nature of healthcare services, including the demographic, social, political, economic, technological, legal, ethical, professional and historic factors that influence the present and future direction of healthcare.
  • Students are able to describe the nature and function of healthcare organizations, including multi-institutional systems and managed care arrangements.
  • Students are able to describe the distribution and determinants of health and disease, including the influences of individual behavior, the environment, and healthcare technology in the prevention and progression of disease, as well as the restoration of health.
  • Students are able to apply managerial knowledge and skills of healthcare organization change, design, performance, strategic planning, marketing, problem-solving, decision making and leadership.
  • Students are able to apply basic quantitative abilities in healthcare financial management, computer literacy, operations analysis, management information systems, statistics and research methods.
  • Students are able to demonstrate the ability to integrate theories and practices of healthcare administration in the practice setting through a faculty-supervised practicum.

Admissions Information

Students are admitted as HCA pre-majors and must have attained a GPA of 2.75 and complete HCA 175  in order to be considered as an HCA major.

To be admitted as an HCA major, student must meet the following requirements.

  • Attain and maintain a minimum of 2.75 GPA
  • Complete MATH 124  equivalence or higher with a grade of C or higher.
  • Complete HCA 175  with a grade of C or higher.
  • Complete PSY 101 , or SOC 101  or ECON 102  with a grade of C or higher.

Modality: In-Person or Fully Online


This program is available Fully In-Person or Fully Online. A fully online student is one who has committed to pursue their entire degree, minor, certificate, or microcredential exclusively through online education. A fully in-person student is one who has committed to pursuing their entire degree, minor, certificate, or microcredential exclusively through in-person education.

Modality change process: Programs may be offered in more than one modality (instructional mode). If programs offer a fully online option, students may opt for a fully online offering at the time of admission. They will be tagged as a fully online student. A student desiring to change the modality from fully online to fully in-person or vice versa, should visit the appropriate advising centers.

  • Humanities and Fine Arts: 9 Credits
    • Two courses 3 credits each from two different humanities areas - 6 credits
    • One course in fine arts- 3 credits
  • Social Science:
    • Automatically satisfied by Major requirements
  • Life and Physical Sciences and Analytical Thinking: 9-10 Credits
    • Two courses from life and physical sciences category; at least one course must have a lab.
    • Analytical Thinking 3 credit course 

Multicultural and International - Credits: 0-6

  2. Students must have taken HCA 175 and have earned a minimum 2. 75 cumulative GPA to be admitted in the program.
  3. Students must graduate with a minimum 2. 75 cumulative GPA.-To take HCA 493, students must have at least a 2. 75 cumulative GPA.
  4. HCA 299  is a Milestone Experience course for Healthcare Administration B.S.
