Psychology (BA)


The Department of Psychology undergraduate curriculum provides a broad and balanced treatment of psychology. Upon completion of this course of study, students will have received upper-division instruction in at least five of the many sub areas of psychology. Thus, they will have knowledge of the diversity of ideas and activities that constitute the field. Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology curriculum is designed to meet the needs of both those students seeking a liberal arts undergraduate degree and those intending to enter advanced training in psychology, education, medicine, or related fields.

Learning Outcomes

  1. KNOWLEDGE
    Students will demonstrate broad knowledge of the various sub-disciplines of psychological science. Students will also demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the research theories and findings in the foundation areas of study in psychological science (e.g., Neuroscience, Perception, Cognition, Development, Psychopathology, and Social).
  2. RESEARCH
    Students will propose research studies and also interpret and critique methods that are used in psychological research studies. Students will be able to conduct statistical tests and interpret data using various statistical techniques used in psychological research.
  3. ETHICS & CULTURE
    Students will recognize, describe, and adhere to ethical standards in research, practice, and academic contexts. Students will be able to convey knowledge of cultural influences and variability in psychological science, as well as develop an understanding of different perspectives in a diverse world.
  4. COMMUNICATION & SKILL DEVELOPMENT
    Students will apply their knowledge of psychological theory, statistical analyses, and research methods through clear written (APA-style research paper) and verbal (oral presentation) communication. Students will also demonstrate the ability to successfully work as a part of a team, think critically, and effectively use technology.
  5. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 
    Students will explore the variety of career paths available for psychology students and then create and implement a plan for succeeding in a path. Students will also demonstrate career readiness and professional attributes that are valued in the  workplace.

This Program is available Fully Online, Fully In-Person, or Blended. Students may select their preferred modality at the time of admission. Those who choose the fully online option are committing to complete their entire degree through online education and will be identified as fully online students in MyUNLV. If circumstances or preferences change after admission, students may request a change in modality through the official change of major process. Academic advisors are available to help students select the format that best supports their academic and personal goals and can assist with any changes needed.
