The English Language Center (ELC) supports non-native speakers of English with reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary courses to develop inquiry, critical thinking, and communication skills in order to succeed in their chosen major at UNLV. The English Language Center is dedicated to training students for success in the transition from ESL classes to academic study at UNLV. The Center serves ethnically diverse students from over 70 different countries. These students prepare for academic success by engaging in intermediate, advanced English composition, and an intensive English as a Second Language Bridge Program: a seven-level program that focuses on developing oral and written communication and academic skills. The English Language Center faculty and staff hold master’s and doctoral degrees in Teaching English as a Second Language.
