Title IX, EEO, and Unlawful harassment, Personal Discrimination, and Retaliation
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), in partnership with the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), stands firmly committed to providing equality of educational and employment opportunity for all persons. The university expressly affirms that students and employees are entitled to an educational and employment environment free from unlawful harassment or personal discrimination, and explicitly prohibits such behavior against any individual among the university community engaged in educational or employment pursuits.
This comprehensive commitment encompasses all aspects of the university environment, regardless of age, disability, gender (including pregnancy related conditions), military status or military obligations, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, national origin, race (including hair texture and protective hairstyles), color, or religion - except where sex, age, or ability represent bona fide educational or employment qualifications or where marital or veteran status are statutorily defined eligibility criteria for federal or state benefit programs. Importantly, no student or employee shall be subject to retaliation for bringing a good-faith complaint pertaining to unlawful harassment or personal discrimination or for protesting such behavior directed against another member of the university community.
The university’s commitment to non-discrimination extends across all employment practices, educational programs, and activities, including admissions, as set forth in the NSHE Handbook, Title 4, Chapter 8, Section 14.
This affirmation aligns with multiple federal and state regulations, including Title VI & Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendment Act of 1972; Executive Order 11246; the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974; the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1988; Nevada Revised Statutes; and the Code and Policies of the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education.
For those experiencing or witnessing discrimination, UNLV has established clear reporting channels. Reports of discriminatory misconduct, questions regarding Title IX, and/or concerns about noncompliance with Title IX or any other anti-discrimination laws or policies should be directed to UNLV’s Title IX Coordinator, Michelle Sposito, who can be reached through:
