Special Education (BSEd)

The Department of Educational and Clinical Studies offers a Bachelor of Science in Special Education (BSEd) for those students interesting in specialized services in schools and community agencies. Undergraduates participate in coursework and clinical experiences that contain a solid theoretical and practical knowledge base in the areas of research design and implementation, teaching, and the provision of mandated services at the community, state, and national level.

    • Two courses 3 credits each from two different humanities areas - 6 credits
    • One course in fine arts- 3 credits

    • Automatically satisfied by Major requirement
  • Life and Physical Sciences and Analytical Thinking - 10 credits
    • Two courses from life and physical sciences category; at least one must be a lab.
    • Analytical Thinking 3 credit course 

Multicultural and International


Multicultural, one 3 credit course required
International, one 3 credit course required

Notes


  1. A candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree in Education must earn a minimum of 120 semester hours with 40 credits in upper-division courses.
  2. Both a minimum overall GPA of 2. 0 as well as a minimum GPA of 2. 75 for all courses attempted in the special education core must be maintained.
  3. EDU 280   also fulfills the multicultural requirement of the general education core. One 3-credit elective course in Humanities and Fine Arts electives should be chosen to satisfy the International Requirement. 
  4. A grade of B or higher must be earned in EDSP 481   (Resource Room Practicum) in order to register for EDSP 481   and EDSP 488  .
  5. A grade of B or higher must be earned in EDSP 481   and EDSP 488   (Pre-student teaching) in order to register for EDSP 491   and EDSP 492  . 6. Students must complete 10 credits of EDSP 491   (Student Teaching) for their degree.
  6. EDSP 441  is a Milestone Experience course for Special Education B.S.
  7. EDSP 491  is a Culminating Experience course for Special Education B.S.
