Healthcare Administration (BS)

Studentspursuing the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Healthcare Administration gain a broad view of the healthcare delivery system and healthcare management practices. They develop skills through the curriculum and internships to prepare them primarily for entry-level management positions in the organization, financing, and delivery of healthcare services.

Admissions Information

Students are admitted as HCA pre-majors and must have attained a GPA of 2.75 and complete HCA 175  in order to be considered as an HCA major.

To be admitted as an HCA major, student must meet the following requirements.

  • Attain and maintain a minimum of 2.75 GPA
  • Complete MATH 124  equivalence or higher with a grade of C or higher.
  • Complete HCA 175  with a grade of C or higher.
  • Complete PSY 101 , or SOC 101  or ECON 102  with a grade of C or higher.

Modality: Fully Online, Fully In-Person, or Blended


This Program is available Fully Online, Fully In-Person, or Blended. Students may select their preferred modality at the time of admission. Those who choose the fully online option are committing to complete their entire degree through online education and will be identified as fully online students in MyUNLV. If circumstances or preferences change after admission, students may request a change in modality through the official change of major process. Academic advisors are available to help students select the format that best supports their academic and personal goals and can assist with any changes needed.

Healthcare Administration (BS) Degree Requirements - Total: 120 Credits


General Education Requirements - Subtotal: 35-46 Credits


First-Year Seminar - Credits: 2-3


 

English Composition - Credits: 6


 

Second-Year Seminar - Credits: 3 (see note 1 below)


Constitutions - Credits: 3-6


Mathematics - Credits: 3

  • Humanities and Fine Arts: 9 Credits
    • Two courses 3 credits each from two different humanities areas - 6 credits
    • One course in fine arts- 3 credits
  • Social Science:
    • Automatically satisfied by Major requirements
  • Life and Physical Sciences and Analytical Thinking: 9-10 Credits
    • Two courses from life and physical sciences category; at least one course must have a lab.
    • Analytical Thinking 3 credit course 

Multicultural and International - Credits: 0-6

Multicultural, one 3 credit course required
International, one 3 credit course required

These courses may overlap with general education and major requirements.  A single course may not meet the multicultural and international requirements or second year or third year milestone courses simultaneously. Includes Foundation Courses (18-24 credits); HCA courses (39-42 credits); and approved guided electives (12 credits).

  2. Students must have taken HCA 175 and have earned a minimum 2. 75 cumulative GPA to be admitted in the program.
  3. Students must graduate with a minimum 2. 75 cumulative GPA.-To take HCA 493, students must have at least a 2. 75 cumulative GPA.
  4. HCA 299  is a Milestone Experience course for Healthcare Administration B.S.
  5. Please consult with an advisor regarding satisfying the Culminating Experience requirement..
