Plan Description
The Department of Counselor Education, School Psychology, and Human Services offers an Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Counseling. The certificate program is designed for individuals already holding master’s degrees in counseling who are seeking to enhance their professional counseling practice and licensure options.
The Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Counseling is targeted primarily toward those individuals who have graduated from CACREP accredited or equivalent programs, but do not meet the necessary educational requirements for the School Counseling License in the State of Nevada.
This advanced graduate certificate program in school counseling will prepare professional counselors to meet the requirements for school counseling licensure in the state of Nevada, with specific attention to the academic, career, personal, and social needs of culturally and linguistically diverse K-12 student populations.
UNLV School Counseling students will learn to design and deliver developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive school counseling interventions (including curricula) that are based on analyzing data (in an ongoing process to assess learning, motivational, and developmental needs of students) and delivered within the context of a comprehensive school counseling program.
UNLV Advanced Graduate Certificate School Counseling students will:
- Adjust counseling intervention strategies to address diverse student needs and cultural contexts within the school counseling environment
- Apply data and program evaluation skills to select appropriate intervention models, assess progress, and present findings
- Develop and organize a comprehensive school counseling program
