Plan Description


The Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management Cybersecurity is an online certificate offered by the Department of Criminal Justice.

The Emergency Management Cybersecurity graduate certificate program provides adaptable skills necessary for professionals in both public and private agencies to prepare for, respond to, and recover from cyber threats.  The program is designed for individuals with diverse professional backgrounds, who do not require advanced technical training in cybersecurity, to upskill by acquiring knowledge in the areas of information technology, law, communication, and emergency management.

Though coursework and dynamic real-world activities, students will learn to develop business continuity and recovery strategies that identify mission essential functions and time-critical tasks, and will gain understanding of legal ramifications relevant to cybersecurity, in agencies with high regulatory frameworks.  The program is designed for individuals who do not possess technological backgrounds, but instead have major operational responsibilities, that include mitigating cyber-related vulnerabilities, so that they are able to lead the preparation for, and response to, the ever-present danger of cyber-attacks.

All applicants must review and follow the Graduate College Admission and Registration Requirements.

Applicants must present:

  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • A current resume which should indicate professional experience in the field of policy making or IT management All the above should be submitted online through the Graduate College admissions application.

Students are accepted into a certificate program as described in the Graduate Catalog. The faculty and corresponding sub-disciplines and sub-plans within the described programs are subject to change at any time.

  • This Program Fully Online (Please see the Fully Online Modality Tracks in Programs section of this Catalog for more information). *Exclusively Fully Online Programs: A fully online student is one who has committed to pursue their entire degree, certificate, or microcredential exclusively through online education. Modality change process: Programs may be offered in more than one modality (instructional mode). If programs offer a fully online option, students may opt for a fully online offering at the time of admission. They will be tagged as a fully online student. Once admitted, students can only change their program modality by sending an email to their respective Graduate College Retention, Progression, and Completion (RPC) Coordinator (grad.rpc@unlv.edu).
  • Complete all required courses, 12 credits total.

Plan Certificate Completion Requirements


Attend the summer cohort.

Students may apply for graduation up to two semesters prior to completing their degree requirements. All required forms must be submitted to the graduate college via the Grad Rebel Gateway.
