Purpose and Focus

The Division of Educational Outreach mission is to extend UNLV’s educational resources in support of and partnership with the community, state, region and beyond in an effort to serve learner needs and interests through innovative courses and comprehensive programs and services. Adult, senior and part-time students: military personnel: government and business employees: and learners who are unable to attend traditional campus-based credit courses and programs constitute the student populations served by the division. The division works with deans and faculty across campus to help shape university outreach to government, business and the general public by offering high-quality credit and noncredit program offerings.

Through Continuing Education and its Professional Development Center, some programs serve practicing professionals with a comprehensive series of courses and customized training leading to certificates, as well as continuing-education courses, seminars, and workshops to maintain up-to-date skills and certification currency. Others serve the wider community with general interest; recreational; fitness and leisure courses; and activities for youth, adults, and seniors.

Summer Term, Online Education, and Community2Campus, which develop academic credit programs serving special or emerging academic disciplines and special publics. Currently, the division also includes the Cannon Survey Center, Institute for Security Studies, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and Public Lands Institute.

Academic Programs Administered by the Division

Summer Term

Summer Term is an integral part of learning at UNLV, spanning 13 weeks, starting with a three-week session and followed by two five-week sessions. Summer courses have the same academic content as the fall or spring courses, but move at a much faster pace. Many students enjoy limiting their attention to one or two topics and find that attending classes five days a week encourages them to concentrate on the subject material. For more information, visit summerterm.unlv.edu or call the Summer Term office at 702-895-3711.

Online Education

Online Education extends educational outreach and access of University courses, degree programs, and research opportunities to the local and global communities in an effort to serve a diverse population of students who prefer or need alternative methods of delivery. All OE courses are taught online or hybrid classroom with interactive materials and streaming video. UNLV faculty, supported by instructional designers, programmers, and technicians, create engaging learning experiences in which students may interact any time their lives allow. For more information, visit online.unlv.edu or call 702-895-0334.

Community2Campus:

The Community2Campus assists UNLV academic departments throughout the year to offer academic credit courses that are taught outside the traditional 15-week semester term in modular or compressed formats. Those courses include fitness and health education, basic math and English, and intensive international. C2C also offers approximately 20 scholarships per semester for returning or non-traditional students. For more information, visit edoutreach.unlv.edu/community2campus or call 702-774-4626.

Admission Policies

The requirements for admission to the Academic Credit Courses are the same as the requirements for admission to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Additional requirements may be added to gain admission to a specific program.

Non-credit and Professional Certificate Programs

The Continuing Education offers non-credit certificates in many areas including human resource management, public relations, paralegal, business management and operations, non-profit management, payroll administration, medical assisting, personal fashion design, and other areas. Call Continuing Education at 702-895-3394 for more information or email continuing.education@unlv.edu
