Undergraduate Major
Journalism and Media Studies
Areas of Concentration
We will facilitate completion of degrees in a timely fashion by requiring at least one area of concentration for each student to explore. In an era of constant media change, many of the traditional tracks through a journalism and media program erect artificial barriers to learning; this program seeks to avoid those barriers. Individual areas of concentration are: Audio & Podcasting; Creative Media; Journalism; Media Studies; Public Relations & Advertising; Social & Digital Media; Sports Media; and Video Production & Journalism.
Graduation requires you to identify a concentration, so it is imperative that you declare one by the first semester of your junior year.
Admission to the Major
Minimum: GPA: 2.00

Journalism and Media Studies courses may not be used to satisfy more than one requirement, except for international and multicultural requirements. All courses satisfying requirements must be completed with at least a C (2.00) grade (C- is unacceptable).
Change of Major
Changing a major or concentration requires coordination with the Student Advising Center. See the Advisement section below for more information.
Internships
Practical application of classroom experience through professional internships is mandatory for all majors. A student is expected to have completed at least 12 credits of appropriate coursework prior to any internship and to have at least a 2.0 GPA. All students must complete three credits of internship.
Advisement
It is essential for each student to meet with an advisor in the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs’ Student Advising Center. Transfer students are required to consult with a college advisor prior to registering for courses. The Advising Center can be reached at 702-895-1009 or urbanaffairs@unlv.edu or may be visited in person on the 4th Floor of Greenspun Hall.
