HIST 647 - Revolutionary Russia 1905-1921

Detailed analysis of the crisis of autocracy, the First World War, the Bolshevik seizures of power, and the early years of the proletarian dictatorship. Examines the experiment in parliamentary politics, the emerging nationalist movements in the empire’s periphery, the institutionalization and extension of violence during the World War, revolutionary and Marxist ideologies, peasant revolt, and the reasons for Bolshevik victory during the civil war. Crosslisted with HIST 447. Credit at the 600-level requires additional work.
