MAT 688 - Partial Differential Equations Credits 3
Method of separation of variables, Fourier series, divergence theorem and Green’s identities, equations of mathematical physics, initial and initial boundary value problems, well-posedness, heat conduction in a thin rod, vibrations of a string, Laplace’s equation, solution of the Dirichlet problem for a disc and for a rectangle. This course is crosslisted with MATH 488. Coursework at the 600-level requires additional work.
