A Message from the UNLV President

As the President of UNLV, it is my hope you will give strong consideration to pursuing your graduate studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  I am very proud of our exceptional programs, outstanding faculty, and the supportive atmosphere in which graduate education thrives.  Our reputation as a university of excellence is supported by the Carnegie Foundation ranking of “Research University/High Research” which currently places us among the top 207 research universities in the country.  Our aspiration is to obtain a designation of “Very High Research Focused University”. During the upcoming academic year, we will begin to move forward with charting our pathway to reach this ranking which will place us among the top 108 American research universities. We are dedicated to delivering our graduate students a high quality graduate experience, a commitment which is affirmed through these rankings.

As you explore graduate education at UNLV, you will be pleased to learn that nearly a quarter of UNLV’s students are currently enrolled in graduate/professional programs.  We know that high quality graduate education is pivotal to the growth and sophistication of our institution.  UNLV graduate students, through their research, scholarship, and creative activity, are not only an important part of our campus community but their scholarship is impactful regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our graduate programs offer students the kind of preparation that only advance study can provide, and our alumni become the professionals who lead our community in such areas as health care, education, law enforcement, social work, business, art, the sciences and engineering and hospitality management.  Their contributions are not only vital to the quality of life that we enjoy here in Southern Nevada, but are often integral to research impacting our nation and the world.

I welcome your interest in UNLV, and I encourage you to join us in our dedication to research and graduate education. Together we will create a bright future for our university and our community.

Cordially,

Donald D. Snyder

UNLV President
